Top 6 Apps You Need to Download for Academic Success

Whether you need study help, a digital planner, or a way to organize weekly assignments, there's an app for that. These choices are some of the best!

College can get a little overwhelming at times. But lucky for us living in the 21st century, we have the beauty of the smartphone. There are some really amazing apps to help you stay on track when things get crazy around mid-semester. Whether you’re looking for study help, a homework planner, or a way to keep track of everything you need to get done in the next week, there are so many apps there to help.

1. Chegg Mobile Apps

Chegg is one of the most useful resources when it comes to buying and renting textbooks. But they also have apps to help you stay organized and study for big tests! Chegg Study offers 24/7 homework help and step-by-step solutions for any problem. They also have an app called Mathway that helps with algebra, calculus, graphing, and more, while their Busuu app helps with language learning through live and recorded instruction.

2. Microsoft To Do

If you’re someone who thrives on organizing your days with lists and feels an extreme amount of satisfaction by checking things off, Microsoft To Do is a great app to get you through your week. It shows you your days, gives you intelligent suggestions, and notifies you when things are overdue. It’s a great way to stay organized and keep your stress levels down. You can download it for free from the Apple Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store.

3. EverNote

Another great app for organization is EverNote. This is sort of a one-stop shop for tracking your tasks and materials: You can make to-do lists, write notes, take pictures, save PDFs, save links from online—everything. This app even allows you to sync all the information on it across all your devices so you never have to worry about losing your study notes or that great website you were using for research, and you can access it easily from anywhere. There’s also a sharing feature that allows you to easily send information for group projects and presentations. You can also download this for free from the Apple Store, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store.

4. myHomework Student Planner

For anyone who gets easily overwhelmed trying to remember all the homework due for all your classes, myHomework Student Planner is the app for you. You can color code by class and specify your due dates, as well as manage a calendar to see what’s due in the coming weeks. It has a simple interface that’s really student-friendly. This app will save you from the anxiety of the moment when your professor goes to collect homework that you forgot was due.

5. Class Timetable

Class Timetable is another extremely easy-to-use app that helps you keep track of your homework and tasks for the week ahead. It’s color coded, has a simple swipeable feature to show you what’s coming up for the week, and can show you your month-long calendar. It’s perfect for planning your homework, group projects, and your dreaded finals week.

6. Google Drive

This one should be a given: Google Drive is one of the most helpful systems I’ve ever used. You can share your documents and presentations, comment and make changes simultaneously with anyone else involved in a project,  and be assured that your work is saved as you go with the autosave feature, keeping you from having to periodically press the save button and risk forgetting. I highly recommend downloading the app to your phone, as it’s extremely helpful to have on hand.

CollegeXpress helped me gain interest in many colleges/universities and many scholarships. I would say the most helpful thing CollegeXpress has done for me is sending me emails that tell me certain types of colleges are interested in me as well as emails about scholarships that I can look at and possibly apply for.

CollegeXpress is always telling you with time to spare when to apply for certain scholarships, what they require, and if you’re eligible or not. They also provide helpful tips for both incoming college students and current college students, such as what to absolutely have in your dorm.

$10,000 Scholarship Winner, 2021

I first discovered CollegeXpress during my sophomore year of high school while researching colleges that interested me. My SAT prep class the following year further familiarized me with the opportunities available through the organization. CX has personally helped me by exposing me to a diverse selection of schools as well as scholarships and life tips that have provided valuable guidance in my college search.

This scholarship will help me adjust to college life without worrying as much about tuition. This gives me more room to truly explore and benefit from all aspects of higher education. I plan to study Conservation Biology and work protecting species/ecosystems. I’m looking forward to getting field experience and seeing firsthand the problems research is solving.

Starting the college admissions process as an international student was daunting. Thankfully, CollegeXpress was the first website I used for that cause and it helped me so much, from knowing where to start to deciding what my next move would be. I'll take a gap year, but I’m certainly using the website again when applying for fall 2023.
